CSS Sailors Compete in Challenging Conditions Against Top MISSA Competition

Every fall, the best sailors of the Midwest Interscholastic Sailing Association (MISSA) gather to compete in the singlehanded Laser (ILCA)—widely regarded as the most technically demanding and unforgiving boat in high school sailing.

This year’s championship brought over 60 sailors to Macatawa Bay in West Michigan, where they battled through more than 30 races across three divisions:

  • ILCA 7 – the largest rig
  • ILCA 6 Open – a slightly smaller rig
  • ILCA 6 Girls Division – featuring top female competitors from across the region

CSS was well represented across the fleets. Julia and Maya sailed strong in the Girls Division, posting consistent finishes throughout the weekend. In the ILCA 7 fleet, Levi and Ryan faced one of the toughest fields in high school sailing and rose to the challenge with impressive results.

A big congratulations goes out to Ryan and Maya, who each finished 9th in their divisions—a remarkable accomplishment given the depth of the competition.
