When a member first registers, they are enrolled at a Bronze level to ensure they have the foundations for success. Bronze sailors often progress to Silver before the end of the first season, especially if they have had some prior sailing experience (enrollment in the summer racing program can expedite progress as well).
Engaged sailors and supporters typically progress at least one level each season. Sailors and supporters simply renew their membership each season at the level invited by the coaching team.
For newer sailors, courses are typically linear with lessons required to be completed/practiced before moving on to the next skill or concept (notice the ‘in progress’ or ‘mark complete’ button at the top of this page). Ultimately, each lesson and any related quizzes must be passed before moving up to the next level.
Videos and links within the lessons also allow sailors and supporters to revisit information out of sequence, based on their learning preferences. For supporters and sailors at higher levels, this ‘tips and tricks’ approach allows them to refine their skills based on specific interests or skill deficits.
Many of our members use these foundations – especially platinum skills – to continue to participate in the program as alumni, coaches and administrators, providing development and continuity within our community. Our graduates are highly sought-after crew and make excellent members of their chosen sailing club.
