Foundry Regatta

After a late Friday cancellation in Macatawa, our CSS teams quickly pivoted, heading to Cleveland early Saturday morning to compete at the Foundry. Lake Erie lived up to its reputation—winds built steadily over 30 mph with wave heights nearing six feet, pushing sailors and equipment to the limit.

Despite the intense conditions, our teams completed seven races before the weather forced an early end. The U of D Mercy team of Graham, Quinn, Charlie, and Corinna sailed hard and finished 6th overall. Our mixed Seaholm team of Sean, Sydney, Ryan, Luciana, and Aniba delivered an outstanding performance and secured 2nd place overall.

Beyond the race results, what stood out most was the character and composure our sailors displayed when others needed help. During a particularly rough moment, when another team was unable to right their capsized boat, Quinn and Ryan immediately jumped into action. With quick thinking and calm execution, they helped right the boat while the powerboat team moved in to stabilize it. Working together with precision, they kept the boat clear of nearby rocks and ensured everyone returned safely to shore.

As a coach, this was one of the proudest moments of the season—a true testament to the leadership, teamwork, and resilience our sailors continue to demonstrate both on and off the water.
