Great Lakes Qualifier – Community Sailing School

This weekend, four CSS teams competed on Cass Lake at the Great Lakes Qualifier, battling for coveted spots at this year’s Great Lakes Championship and the Shepherd Championship in Chicago next month.

Congratulations to Birmingham Public Schools (BPS) and University of Detroit Mercy (U of D M), who have officially qualified for the Shepherd Championship!

Team Highlights

Birmingham Public Schools – 5th Overall
Strong performances came from Ryan, Luc, Sydney, Klara, Alex, and Elsa, securing a top-five finish and a berth at the Shepherd Championship.
University of Detroit Mercy – 7th Overall
The team of Charlie, Quinn, Aniba, and Corina sailed consistently to earn their championship qualification.
Detroit Country Day – 9th Place
Captains Krish and Ashwin devoted much of the weekend to mentoring younger teammates Shiv, Alex, and Jasper, building strength for future regattas.
Troy High School – 10th Place
Tremendous growth was seen as Oliver, Tabitha, and Iris took the helm at this high-level event. They were supported by Shivani, Meera, Rithwik, Scarlet, and Aveline, with a special shout-out to Julia for her guidance and leadership.

Looking Ahead

CSS teams continue to show determination and growth at every level. We’re proud of all our sailors for representing our program and are excited to see BPS and U of D M compete on the championship stage in Chicago next month!
